Success story

Packwise: every order, every serial number, every shipment in one record

A thin record layer on top of Packwise flow, their own device management platform, and the finance and service systems gives Packwise one place where orders, serial-numbered units and transports are tracked, queried and audited, and where every unit has its own history.

About Packwise

Packwise (opens in a new tab) is based in Dresden and builds an Industrial IoT solution for the chemical industry. It tracks industrial containers along the supply chain and monitors their fill level, turning physical containers into trackable parts of a digital supply chain. The Packwise solution is used in more than 20 countries on five continents.

Situation

Questions the existing systems could not answer

Packwise runs their own device management platform called Packwise flow, plus finance and service systems. The operational questions sat outside them: which serial number was delivered where, in which order, and what the transport status is right now. Answering them meant asking around instead of looking it up.

What we built

A thin record on top of the existing systems, nothing migrated

Plovr runs as the system of record next to Packwise flow and the finance and service systems, not instead of them. They keep everything they already own. Plovr keeps the operational picture at unit level:

  • Orders, serial numbers and transports tracked in one place
  • One page per serial number with its full history: where it has been, what happened to it, who did what
  • Queryable, reportable and exportable; every change logged
  • Hosted and processed in the EU

What changed

From asking around to looking it up

The questions that used to go around the team are now answered from the record. What we track with Packwise, in the metrics that matter for a system of record:

  • Transparency: questions answered from the record, not by asking around
  • Reportability: status of orders and transports available on demand
  • Days of audit preparation
  • Compliance and defensibility when a claim comes in

Certification

Traceability that supported ISO 9001

Every order, serial number and transport can be traced end to end in Plovr. That complete traceability helped Packwise obtain its ISO 9001 certification.

“We built Packwise on Plovr rather than switching to it later. The question 'which unit went where, on which order?' is now answered by one page per unit with its full history, instead of three systems and a spreadsheet. Volume has multiplied since then; the effort to track it has not.”

What it proves

The record is the foundation, the agents build on it

Packwise shows the system-of-record layer working in production: one record where no system owned it, without a migration project and without replacing anything. That record is the data basis the field-service and back-office agents run on. The same serial-number history can be extended into a digital product passport at unit level: what the product is, what is in it, and what happened to it over its life.
